Afghanistan To Host India, In India

In September, Afghanistan will welcome India for a three-match Twenty20 International series in Delhi. Although the dates have not yet been made public, Cricinfo has learned that the series will probably take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 13, 15, and 17.

Afghanistan has been playing home games in India for some time, therefore this would be the first time a team will host India on Indian soil. They have never faced India, however they have played home games in Lucknow, Dehradun, and Greater Noida.

The series is slated to take place between India’s Test tour of Sri Lanka and the Asian Games, which begin in Japan in late September. More than two weeks before the first Twenty20 International against Afghanistan, the second Test match against Sri Lanka is set to conclude on August 27. One week following the third Twenty20 International, on September 24, the Asian Games get underway.

In June, Afghanistan’s away tour included three ODIs and a single Test match against India. On the third day in New Chandigarh, India won the Test by an innings and 300 runs, and they went on to win the ODIs 3-0.

Despite being the current T20 champions, India’s recent white-ball performance has been subpar. India lost the T20I series in England by a 4-0 margin (one game was wiped out) shortly after losing the two T20Is to Ireland in Belfast during the final week of June. They subsequently lost the ODIs 2-1. India is currently playing a three-match series in Zimbabwe.

Since winning two of their four matches at the T20 World Cup in India earlier this year and missing out on a Super Eight position, Afghanistan has not participated in any Twenty20 Internationals.
