Delhi-NCR Prepares for Heavy Rainfall as IMD Issues Alerts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi-NCR, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning on July 29, 2025. A red alert has been issued for neighboring Haryana, warning of very heavy rainfall on the same day. The IMD predicts intense rain spells in parts of Delhi-NCR, including areas such as Mungeshpur, Najafgarh, Jafarpur, Pitampura, DU North Campus, Ridge, Red Fort/Rajghat, Chandni Chowk, Delhi SFD, New Delhi Railway Station, Pusa, Bahai (Lotus Temple), Qutub Minar, and Ayanagar, within the next few hours. Gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph are also expected to accompany the thunderstorms.

The weather forecast indicates a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning, across Delhi. Maximum temperatures are projected to range between 29°C and 31°C, while minimum temperatures will likely be between 23°C and 25°C. The minimum temperature is expected to be 1°C to 2°C above normal, while the maximum temperature will be 3°C to 5°C below normal.

Across India, the IMD anticipates heavy rainfall in multiple regions. Coastal Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe are expected to experience heavy showers on July 29, with moderate rainfall forecast for Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Telangana over the next seven days. Strong surface winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are also likely over South Peninsular India for the next five days. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for Konkan, the Gujarat region, and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on July 29, with moderate rainfall expected to continue in these areas for the next six to seven days. In Northeast India, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is forecast for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from July 29 to August 3.

The IMD advises residents to stay updated on weather developments, as widespread weather disturbances are expected to bring rain, gusty winds, and cooler temperatures across north, central, and southern India.
