Shillong Police Uncover New Evidence in Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case

SHILLONG/INDORE: In a significant development in the investigation of Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, Shillong police, with assistance from the Indore Crime Branch, have recovered a charred bag containing remnants of the victim’s phone and jewelry from a vacant plot in Indore’s Hare Krishna Vihar Colony, near MR-3. The discovery was made possible through a coordinated effort involving forensic experts who collected partially burnt electronic components and blackened metallic fragments from the site.

Two additional suspects, identified as Indore property dealer Silom James and a security guard, were arrested in connection with the case. James was apprehended late Saturday night in Mahalaxmi Nagar and is accused of removing critical evidence, including a pistol, Rs 5 lakh in cash, clothing, and gold jewelry, from a flat used by key suspect Raj Kushwaha and his associate, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the victim’s wife. The security guard allegedly assisted James in disposing of these items. Both individuals are now considered co-accused in the ongoing investigation, according to Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya, who confirmed that James was taken for a medical examination and will be presented in court for transit remand.

Authorities suspect that James transferred the cash and gold to another location before destroying electronic items, such as phones and a laptop, along with documents by burning them. The investigation continues to unravel the circumstances surrounding Raghuvanshi’s death, with police intensifying efforts to piece together the conspiracy allegedly orchestrated by Sonam Raghuvanshi and her accomplices during the couple’s honeymoon in Meghalaya.
