Shinde Reacts to Kamra’s Satirical Comments, Calls It “Supari” to Speak Against Him

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has taken a strong exception to comedian Kunal Kamra’s taunt at him, comparing it to accepting a “supari” (contract) to insult someone. Shinde pointed out that freedom of speech is essential but there has to be a limit, especially in the case of satire. Kamra had taunted Shinde in his comedy show, calling him a “gaddar” (traitor) and cracking jokes about political divisions in Maharashtra, and controversy erupted.
Shinde criticized the vandalism that took place after Kamra’s performance at a Mumbai comedy club, saying that although he does not condone such behavior, people should be in control of themselves when making such statements. He also criticized Kamra for having made inflammatory statements in the past against public figures, including the Supreme Court and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Deputy CM also again asserted that his priority is work and development, not reacting to personal attacks.

Shinde clarified his focus on development and welfare schemes such as projects under Atal Setu and Metro projects, which were recommenced during his tenure. He referred to schemes such as “Ladki Bahin” and “Lakhpati Didi,” reiterating that his actions would be his answer to the criticism, not verbal arguments.
