Ayodhya Ram Temple : PM Narendra Modi Hoists Sacred Flag, Marking Completion Of Temple

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted a sacred saffron flag atop the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya at a grand Dhwajarohan ceremony on Tuesday. PM Modi led the Dhwajarohan ceremony during the ‘Abhijeet Muhurat’, an hour priests consider the most auspicious for sacred work. The 22-by-11-foot flag, embroidered with golden depictions of the Sun, the sacred Om and the Kovidar tree, was raised onto a 42-foot pole rising from the temple’s spire.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, sadhus, dignitaries and members of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust accompanied the Prime Minister during the ceremony that opened all 44 doors of the temple for rituals. PM Modi is scheduled to address a gathering of more than 8,000 invitees shortly. Pran Pratishtha, conducted on January 22 last year, consecrated the Ram Lalla idol in the sanctum and symbolically infused life force into the deity, allowing daily worship to begin even as construction continued.

The saffron flag itself is steeped in symbolism. The Sun evokes Lord Ram’s Suryavansh lineage, and Om signifies the temple’s spiritual resonance. The Kovidar tree — a hybrid of Mandar and Parijat, described in the Valmiki Ramayana — denotes purity, prosperity and the ideal of Ram Rajya. Crafted over 25 days by a parachute manufacturing firm in Ahmedabad, the flag uses parachute-grade fabric and premium silk threads designed to withstand sun, rain and high winds. Weighing 11 kg, its specifications were finalised in consultation with senior Army officials.

The flag hoisting ceremony coincided with Vivah Panchami, celebrated as the celestial wedding day of Lord Ram and Sita. Before the ceremony, PM Modi offered prayers at the newly built Sapt Mandir inside the complex. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister arrived to a rousing welcome in Ayodhya. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel received him at the airport, after which he held a roadshow through the temple city.
