On Tuesday, the Pakistan Army crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, breaching the ceasefire pact between India and Pakistan. The Nangi Tekri Battalion, under the Krishna Ghati Brigade, swiftly countered the unprovoked assault, an Indian Army official reported.
According to the official, a mine explosion rocked the Krishna Ghati Sector on April 1 due to the Pakistan Army’s incursion across the LoC. Shortly after, Pakistani forces opened fire without provocation, further violating the ceasefire. Indian troops responded with precision and restraint, stabilizing the situation, which remains under close watch.
The Indian Army emphasized the importance of respecting the 2021 Directors General of Military Operations (DGsMO) agreement to ensure peace along the LoC, the official noted.
This clash coincides with intensified security efforts in Kathua’s Panjtirthi area, where forces were already engaged after an earlier firefight with terrorists. A coordinated operation involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) began after suspicious activity was spotted on March 31 night, sparking another encounter by early April 1.
At sunrise on April 1, security teams launched a search-and-destroy mission in Kathua. Guided by intelligence, they set up surveillance posts and ambushes across the area. The operation continues, with authorities on high alert and actively monitoring developments.
The Rising Star Corps of the Indian Army confirmed these efforts, stating: “Based on intelligence, we deployed multiple surveillance and ambush teams in the Panjtirthi area of Kathua, involving the Indian Army, JK Police, and CRPF. Suspicious movement was observed on the night of March 31, resulting in an exchange of fire. Search and destroy operations began at first light on April 1 and are still in progress.”
