Massive Fire in Delhi’s Rohini Slum Kills 2 Children, Injures 5

Two children lost their lives and five others sustained injuries after a massive fire tore through a slum cluster in Delhi’s Rohini area on Sunday morning, according to a Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official.

The DFS official stated that the emergency call was received around 11:55 am. The blaze, which spread across nearly five acres of densely packed shanties, sent thick plumes of smoke billowing into the air.

Firefighters managed to douse the flames after a three-hour-long operation, although cooling efforts are still ongoing. Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have started within the cluster itself. The official noted that while the area lacked organized electrical wiring, the presence of numerous LPG cylinders could have fueled the rapid spread of the flames.

Several police teams were also deployed to the site alongside firefighting units. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire.

Following the incident, Union Health Minister and BJP President JP Nadda instructed Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva to mobilize party workers and extend immediate help to the affected families, ANI reported.
