Bengaluru: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has called June 4 stampede at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy stadium as an accident. He has compared mishap with Uttar Pradesh’s Kumbh Mela wherein at least 82 people killed. He said that Karnataka government has taken good administrative steps during the stampede and during Covid-19. In BJP’s demand Congress President Kharge said that the incident is definitely wrong and our leaders apologised for the same. It is to be noted that BJP said Karnataka Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister should resign over the incident that killed 11 people.
He questioned Kumbh Mela and Covid tragedy. He asked did anyone resigned from their post as stampede happened in Kumbh Mela. Apart citing Kumbh, he pointed out situation happened during Covid-19. He said it is not done intentionally, it’s an accident and our leaders have apologised for such incident. The same question was asked to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and he had also done same kind of comparison. CM has called BJP’s demand politically motivated and accused opposition of playing blame game after tragedy.
Siddaramaiah blamed opposition and said that they always manipulate facts and mislead the people with fake information. They have been demanding resignation of leaders but it doesn’t have basis. He recounted stampede happens during Kumbh Mela and mentioned similar past incidents and asked to BJP why it is silence over it.
He said during Kumbh Mela over 50 people died, did they ask for resignations of any CM. Moreover he marked that during its inauguration as many as 140 people killed. Did any one ask Prime Minister to step down. He also recalled Godhra train incident and oxygen crisis in Chamarajanagar and said did Bommai’s resignation demanded at that time. Considering BJP’s demand as one kind of opportunity, he said appropriate action will be taken by government based on the outcome of the investigation.
