IndiGo Flight Returns to Nagpur After Suspected Bird Strike

NAGPUR: An IndiGo flight en route from Nagpur to Kolkata encountered a suspected bird strike shortly after takeoff on Tuesday, prompting an emergency landing back at Nagpur airport, according to officials. The incident, involving flight 6E812, occurred moments after the aircraft left the ground, leading the crew to return to the airport as a precautionary measure.

Abid Ruhi, Senior Airport Director at Nagpur Airport, confirmed the event, stating to ANI, “We are trying to analyse what has happened. More details are awaited.” Airport authorities are currently conducting a thorough inspection of the aircraft to determine the extent of any damage and confirm the cause of the incident. Further information is expected once the investigation is complete.

The aircraft, carrying 272 passengers, landed safely, and no injuries were reported, as noted by News18. Visuals from the Nagpur airport runway showed staff inspecting the plane, with visible damage to its front portion, likely caused by the suspected bird strike. Data from flightradar24.com, cited by Hindustan Times, identified the aircraft as an Airbus A320-251N, which was promptly diverted back to Nagpur following the incident.

The Times of India News Desk, known for its round-the-clock coverage, reported that authorities are actively assessing the situation to provide clarity on the event. This incident follows a series of recent mid-air scares involving IndiGo and other airlines, highlighting ongoing challenges with bird strikes and technical issues in Indian aviation.

As the investigation continues, IndiGo has not yet released an official statement, but the safe return of the flight underscores the crew’s swift response to ensure passenger safety. The findings of the probe will likely inform future safety measures to prevent similar occurrences.
