Haryana IPS Officer Suicide: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Meets Family, Urges Governor’s Intervention | VIDEO

Punjab Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Bhagwant Mann on Saturday met the family of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide earlier this week. Offering condolences, Mann called for a fair and transparent probe into the officer’s death, which has sparked demands for justice from his relatives.

Speaking to ANI, Mann appealed to the Haryana Chief Minister and the Central Government to support the grieving family, stressing that “no one is above the law” and justice must prevail. He confirmed meeting the Governor, who is also Chandigarh’s Administrator, requesting his direct intervention to bring both officials and the family to the discussion table. Mann alleged that “a community is being deliberately targeted as part of a conspiracy” and emphasised that the late officer, along with others from his community, earned their positions purely on merit in UPSC examinations.

According to officials, Y Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself with his service revolver at his Chandigarh residence on Tuesday. A signed eight-page “suicide note” reportedly named nine serving IPS officers, a retired IPS officer, and three retired IAS officers, accusing them of caste-based discrimination.

An FIR has been registered, but the family claims that sections under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and abetment to suicide have not yet been invoked despite the contents of the note. Mann urged both state and central BJP-led governments to meet the family soon and assure justice in the matter.
