Greater Noida: In a chilling case of dowry violence, shocking visuals have surfaced showing a woman, aflame and severely injured, stumbling down a staircase moments after being assaulted by her husband and in-laws in Greater Noida’s Sirsa village.
The victim, identified as Nikki, married into the family in 2016. According to her sister Kanchan, who is also married into the same household, both were subjected to relentless demands for dowry. Their in-laws allegedly demanded ₹36 lakh from their families.
Kanchan recounted that Nikki was brutally beaten on Thursday night before being doused with a liquid and set on fire in front of her child. Heart-wrenching videos show Nikki’s husband, Vipin, dragging her by the hair, his body smeared with blood. In other clips, Nikki is seen engulfed in flames, struggling down the stairs before collapsing, with bystanders attempting to douse the fire.
“We were constantly tortured for money. That night, they brutally thrashed my sister in front of me and the children before setting her ablaze. I tried to save her, but fainted during the chaos. I want justice—my in-laws should suffer as she suffered,” Kanchan told reporters, holding back tears.
Nikki’s young son also recalled the incident: “They poured something on Mumma, slapped her, and then lit her with a lighter.”
Police Action
Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar said the family received information late Thursday from a hospital where Nikki had been admitted with severe burns. She was referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, but died on the way.
A post-mortem has been conducted, and police registered a case based on Kanchan’s complaint. Nikki’s husband, Vipin, has been arrested, while her father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law are absconding. Police have launched a search to nab the accused.
