Delhi Tragedy: Man Kills Wife Over Social Media, Attempts Suicide

In a tragic incident in Delhi’s Najafgarh, a 35-year-old e-rickshaw driver, Aman, allegedly strangled his wife to death following a dispute over her social media activity, PTI reported, citing police sources. The couple, originally from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, had been married for over a decade and resided in a rented home in Old Roshanpura with their two sons, aged nine and five.

According to police, Aman frequently clashed with his wife, Rajni, over her active presence on social media platforms, where she had amassed around 6,000 followers as a self-described social media artist. The couple’s arguments escalated on Tuesday morning, culminating in Aman allegedly strangling Rajni. A senior police officer told PTI that initial inquiries revealed Aman had physically abused his wife in the past over her creation of reels and videos.

Following the killing, Aman attempted to take his own life by hanging and consuming poison, police said. Around 4:23 a.m., the landlord alerted authorities via a PCR call after Aman, in distress, confessed to the crime and was found attempting suicide. The scarf he used to hang himself broke, and he collapsed after ingesting poison. Delhi Police responded swiftly, rescuing Aman and rushing him to Rao Tularam Memorial Hospital, where he was later transferred to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital for further treatment. He remains in custody while receiving medical care.

Rajni’s body was preserved for a post-mortem examination, and police are recording statements from neighbors and relatives to further investigate the case, which has been registered at Najafgarh police station. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence, with police noting prior instances of abuse in the couple’s relationship.
