Patna: Breaking her silence after sensationally announcing her exit from politics, Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Saturday squarely blamed key party figures, including her brother Tejashwi Yadav, for pushing her out.
Speaking to reporters at Patna airport, Acharya made her first public comments since the announcement. “I don’t have a family. You should go and ask Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, and Rameez. They are the ones who threw me out of the family,” she alleged.
Acharya, who famously donated a kidney to her father, claimed she was targeted for questioning the party’s massive defeat in the recent Bihar assembly elections. “They do not want to take any responsibility… The whole nation is asking why the party failed like this. When you take the names of Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, you are thrown out of the house, disgraced, and abused,” she stated.
Her comments came a day after the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan’s poor electoral showing and her own post on X (formerly Twitter). In that post, she had written, “I am quitting politics and I am disowning my family…This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do…and I am taking all the blame.”
Sanjay Yadav is a Rajya Sabha MP from the RJD and is considered a close aide to Tejashwi Yadav. Rameez Alam is reportedly an old friend of Tejashwi’s from a political family in Uttar Pradesh, according to news agency PTI.
This public outburst exposes a deepening rift within Lalu Yadav’s family, coming just months after his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, was expelled from the RJD and the family over a personal controversy.
The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan suffered a major setback in the state polls. The RJD secured just 25 seats, while its allies, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation), the Indian Inclusive Party (IIP), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), managed only two, one, and one seat, respectively. In contrast, the ruling BJP-JD(U) alliance stormed back to power, with the BJP winning 89 seats and the JD(U) securing 85.
