Bihar Polls : JDU Declares 44 Candidates, Fields Bijendra Prasad Yadav From Supaul

Patna : As Bihar’s ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is still grappling with the seat-sharing impasse, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU) on Thursday released its final list of 44 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections. Minister Sumit Singh, who won the 2020 election as an independent, has been nominated by the party this time from the Chakai Assembly seat. Other ministers nominated include Jama Khan from the Chainpur seat, Jayant Raj from Amarpur, and Lesy Singh from Dhamdaha.

Vashishtha Singh has been nominated from Kargahar, while Bulo Mandal will contest from Gopalpur. The caste composition of the final candidate list includes 37 OBC candidates, 22 EBC, 22 from the General category, 15 SC candidates, and 1 ST candidate. The BJP-led NDA is facing internal rifts, as its constituent parties have yet to finalise a seat-sharing agreement. The BJP releasing its first list of 71 candidates on Monday has widened the rift, leading the JDU to announce its own list of contenders.

Nitish Kumar’s party announced candidates for Sonbarsa, Morwa, Ekma, and Rajgir, a move that could irk Chirag Paswan, who has also sought key constituencies. Rajgir, located in Nalanda district, Nitish Kumar’s home turf, has become a major flashpoint in the ongoing tussle. JDU holds significant influence across five of the district’s seven seats. BJP has released two more candidates’ lists, taking the party’s total tally to 101, Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has also announced its first list of 14 candidates.
