Bhilwara : Bureaucrat, Petrol Pump Staff Slap Each Other

Bhilwara : A heated verbal exchange at a petrol pump in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara quickly escalated into a physical altercation after a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) slapped an employee, prompting another staffer to retaliate by slapping the officer back. The three arrested petrol pump attendants have been identified as Deepak Mali, Prabhu Lal Kumawat and Raja Sharma.

Vyas, the officer’s wife, alleged that one of the petrol pump workers winked at her and made a lewd comment, which angered her husband and prompted him to confront the employee. The worker then left their vehicle and began refuelling the car behind them. The petrol pump owner too arrived at the scene and started hurling abuses at us. I demand a criminal case be registered against the petrol pump owner and the workers, and the law should take its course,” Vyas added in her complaint.

This further angered the officer, after which he slapped the worker, only to be assaulted back. According to police, Sharma objected when a staff member began refuelling another vehicle, insisting that his car should be served first as he had arrived before that person. Meanwhile, there was a huge outrage on social media after the video of the incident went viral, with netizens demanding the bureaucrat’s sacking with immediate effect.

Reacting to the entire controversy, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, Tika Ram Jully, called on the state police to ensure justice in the matter. Based on CCTV footage and media reports of the dispute between the SDM and petrol pump workers in Bhilwara, this case appears to involve the SDM mistreating the petrol pump workers.

The Congress leader also called on the Bhilwara Superintendent of Police, saying he should personally monitor this case and ensure justice. This should not lead to injustice against the poor due to the influence of his (Sharma’s) position. The investigation includes reviewing video evidence and taking statements from witnesses. Law enforcement officers have indicated that further action will be taken based on their findings.
