CCTV Captures Couple’s Ruthless Pursuit and Fatal Ramming of Delivery Rider

In a shocking display of road rage, authorities in Bengaluru have detained a martial arts instructor and his spouse after chilling surveillance video exposed their deliberate attempt to kill a young food delivery worker by striking his scooter with their vehicle. The footage, obtained by investigators, depicts the pair not only chasing down the victim following a trivial collision but also circling back to the scene to retrieve debris from their damaged car.

The harrowing incident unfolded on October 25 in the Nataraja Layout area of South Bengaluru, claiming the life of 24-year-old Darshan, a Kembattalli resident who worked as a delivery agent. Darshan, unmarried and the sole support for his parents and sister, succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital after being rushed there by local residents alongside his pillion passenger, Varun.

According to police accounts, the sequence began around 9 p.m. when Darshan’s gearless scooter inadvertently grazed the right-side rear-view mirror of a car driven by Manoj Kumar, 32, a Kalaripayattu trainer originally from Kerala. Despite Darshan’s immediate apology as he hurried off to complete a food delivery, Kumar erupted in fury. In a brazen escalation, he executed a U-turn and pursued the scooter, intentionally swerving to collide with it from behind, investigators revealed.

The forceful impact hurled both Darshan and Varun onto the pavement, with the car speeding away without halting. Medical staff at the facility pronounced Darshan dead on arrival. Initially treated as a hit-and-run, Darshan’s sister lodged a complaint with the JP Nagar traffic police, prompting a deeper probe.

Reviewing CCTV recordings from the vicinity left officers appalled. “What appeared as a mishap was anything but,” a senior investigator noted. The video clearly illustrated the driver’s purposeful maneuver to ram the scooter. Adding to the premeditation, another clip captured the vehicle reappearing at approximately 9:40 p.m. Masked occupants—later identified as Kumar and his 30-year-old wife, Aarati Sharma, a native of Jammu & Kashmir—parked close by, gathered shattered car components scattered from the crash, and departed. Crucially, the cameras unmasked their faces as they drove off.

This damning evidence enabled swift identification of the vehicle and led police to the couple’s home. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh Jagalasar announced the arrests, stating the suspects had admitted their roles. Manoj Kumar and Aarati Sharma, wed for five years, now face 14 days in judicial custody.

Though Kumar insisted he acted solo in the collision and that his wife merely joined him afterward to recover the parts, officials are scrutinizing his account for inconsistencies. Darshan’s grieving family has called for the harshest penalties, underscoring the profound loss of a diligent young man cut down in an act of senseless violence.
