Mumbai’s Western Railway Faces Major Disruptions Due to 36-Hour Block at Kandivali Yard

Mumbai’s Western Railway commuters are bracing for significant travel disruptions this weekend due to a 36-hour block at Kandivali Yard, as announced by Western Railway officials. The block, scheduled to start at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, and conclude at 1:00 AM on Monday, June 2, 2025, will affect the 5th line and yard lines at Kandivali, impacting both suburban and long-distance train services.
According to a Western Railway official, the block is necessary to dismantle an elevated booking office at Kandivali Yard, part of critical infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and safety. The disruption will result in the cancellation of approximately 160 local train services, including both fast and slow suburban trains. On Saturday, around 70 suburban services, including nearly 50 fast services, will be canceled, while Sunday will see about 90 cancellations, with almost 60 involving fast trains.
During the block, suburban and mail/express trains typically operating on the 5th line will be rerouted to the fast lines. This rerouting will also affect four express trains, with partial cancellations or changes in their origin and termination points. Specifically, Train No. 19418 Ahmedabad–Borivali Express, operating on May 30 and 31, will terminate at Vasai Road, with the Vasai Road–Borivali segment canceled. Similarly, Train No. 19425 Borivali–Nandurbar Express, running on May 31 and June 1, will originate from Bhayandar, with the Borivali–Bhayandar leg canceled. Train No. 19426 Nandurbar–Borivali Express, departing on May 31, will also terminate at Vasai Road, and Train No. 19417 Borivali–Ahmedabad Express, scheduled for June 1, will start from Vasai Road, canceling the Borivali–Vasai Road portion.
Western Railway has advised passengers to check detailed train schedules and modifications through station masters or official railway portals, such as wr.indianrailways.gov.in, to stay informed. “Travelers are urged to plan alternative travel arrangements in advance to avoid last-minute inconvenience,” said Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, in a press release. The railway authority emphasized that these upgrades are essential for improving the long-term reliability and safety of the network.
Commuters are encouraged to explore alternative travel options, such as BEST buses or private transport, to mitigate the impact of the cancellations. Detailed lists of affected services are available on Western Railway’s official website.
