Mumbai to Face Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds for Next 4 Days

Mumbai and its surrounding metropolitan regions are preparing for turbulent weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the next four days, forecasting thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rainfall, and gusty winds in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. The alert, effective through August 16, 2025, warns of potential disruptions due to winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph at isolated locations.

According to the IMD’s local forecast for Mumbai city and its suburbs, the next 48 hours will bring generally cloudy skies with moderate rainfall and the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. Temperatures are expected to hover around a maximum of 30°C and a minimum of 25°C. The FPJ News Service reported that while the showers may offer relief from recent dry conditions, heavy rain during peak hours could disrupt daily life, particularly in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging, such as Sion, Matunga, Andheri, and Dahisar. As of Wednesday morning, August 13, 2025, no significant waterlogging or traffic issues have been reported, and local train services across all suburban lines are operating smoothly.

Beyond Mumbai, several districts across Maharashtra, including Ratnagiri, Pune, Satara, and parts of the Marathwada region, are also under a yellow alert for moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few days. The Vidarbha region faces a more severe orange alert, with forecasts indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD attributes the expected uptick in rainfall to a revival of monsoon activity, which has been less intense in August compared to June and July. Since June 1, 2025, Mumbai’s Colaba observatory has recorded 1,015 mm of rainfall, while the Santacruz observatory has logged 1,374.5 mm, according to cumulative data.

The IMD predicts a stronger monsoon revival in September, signaling that Mumbai’s rainy season is far from over. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and follow weather updates to prepare for potential disruptions in the coming days.
