Thane Domino’s Pizza Outlet Raided: 140 LPG Cylinders Worth Rs 4.59 Lakh Seized
Thane: A Domino’s Pizza outlet located in the Wonder Mall area of Thane came under scrutiny when a flying squad from the Rationing Department conducted a raid, resulting in the seizure of 140 LPG gas cylinders valued at Rs 4.59 lakh. The cylinders were from major suppliers including HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited), BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited), IOC (Indian Oil Corporation), and Go Gas. Of the total, 55 cylinders were found filled while 85 were empty.
Officials have initiated an investigation into the irregular storage of these cylinders at the commercial outlet. The action was reported by NDTV Marathi and highlighted in the Free Press Journal. This development occurs against the backdrop of the ongoing West Asia conflict, which has led to frequent long queues for LPG cylinders across the city and a noticeable rise in incidents of black marketing.

The raid at the Domino’s outlet forms part of broader enforcement efforts by the Rationing Department to curb illegal storage and diversion of domestic LPG cylinders. Just last week, the department carried out a significant operation in Mumbai’s Wadi Bunder–Dongri area based on confidential inputs received by Chandrakant Dange, Controller of Rationing and Director of Civil Supplies in Mumbai. In that case, authorities intercepted eight vehicles involved in illegal transportation and seized 451 gas cylinders worth over Rs 40.61 lakh.
The Thane incident has drawn attention to potential irregularities in how commercial establishments manage LPG supplies during periods of shortage, even as small businesses and local eateries face disruptions. The Rationing Department continues to monitor and act on such cases to ensure proper distribution and prevent hoarding. Further probes are underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the storage at the Domino’s outlet.
