The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) terminated the license of “Rustom,” a well-known ice cream shop in Mumbai, after discovering grave violations of food safety and cleanliness, including the presence of live rats, houseflies, and expired food products.
According to a news release from the FDA briefs, the Rustom ice cream shop, which is situated at Brabourne Stadium House on Veer Nariman Road, Churchgate, Mumbai, has been subject to legal action after it was discovered that it had not complied with Schedule 4’s sanitation regulations.
Serious flaws were found during the inspection, such as the existence of live rats and houseflies on the property, a malfunctioning cold chain, a failure to keep required documentation, and expired food items.
Under Section 32(3) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, an order for the immediate suspension of the food license was issued in light of these grave infractions.
One of Mumbai’s most recognizable and traditional ice cream shops is “Rustom.” K Rustom Irani founded Rustom & Co. in 1953, and it is well-known for its ice cream sandwiches. Today, it endures as an indispensable part of Mumbai’s culinary legacy, providing affordable ice creams to people around Marine Drive.
