Mumbai: Khar Police have detained two people for allegedly trying to kill a real estate businessman during a brutal assault in Khar West.
On December 24, real estate businessman Hemant Dalal, 64, faced a deadly attack stemming from a conflict over shop ownership in the Nira-Villa building across from Khar railway station (west). The swift response and bravery of Constable Anil Jadhav from Khar Police Station prevented Dalal’s death.
Suspects charged and taken into custody
Khar Police filed a case against Roshan Patel alias Singh and Vijay Patel for alleged murder attempt and apprehended them the same day.
Property conflict details
According to the FIR, complainant Dalal, who lives in Nalasopara East, possesses property in the Nira-Villa building facing Khar railway station on the western side. He had previously initiated legal proceedings concerning the contested shop at the Small Causes Court, Bandra (East).
Following court directions on April 15, 2025, authorities sealed the shop through a bailiff and, with police security from Khar Police, transferred possession from Roshan Patel alias Singh to Dalal.
Intimidation and earlier complaint
Upset over the court ruling, the accused allegedly harbored resentment toward Dalal and started intimidating him, blocking his access to the shop. Consequently, Dalal had registered a non-cognisable (NC) complaint against Patel two days before the attack.
Assault with bamboo and sickle
On December 24, around 2.30 pm, when Dalal visited the lane beneath the Nira-Villa building, he met Roshan Patel, who allegedly initiated a dispute with him. The confrontation turned violent when Roshan Patel allegedly hit Dalal with a bamboo stick.
Hearing the disturbance, Vijay Patel, a resident of the same area, reached the location and allegedly provoked Roshan by instructing him to “cut his throat” with a sickle.
Subsequently, Roshan Patel allegedly fetched a sickle from his residence and assaulted Dalal with lethal intent, delivering multiple strikes to his head, forehead, eyes, hands and other body parts. Dalal suffered severe injuries from the attack.
Officer’s prompt action prevents fatality
During the incident, Constable Anil Jadhav, stationed at the police outpost near Khar railway station, heard the disturbance and rushed to the scene immediately.
As the accused attacked Dalal with the sickle, Constable Jadhav, demonstrating quick thinking, blocked the strikes with his baton and succeeded in saving Dalal’s life.
Suspects detained, victim receiving treatment
Primary accused Roshan Patel alias Singh and his associate Vijay Patel were arrested along with the weapon employed in the assault.
The wounded Dalal was promptly transported to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra West for medical care with help from Khar Police Station’s mobile patrol unit. Medical staff report his condition is presently stable.
Legal provisions applied and official commendation
In this matter, Khar Police have filed an FIR against Roshan Patel alias Singh and Vijay Patel under Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 49 (punishment of abetment where the act abetted is committed), and 3(5) (general explanation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside applicable sections of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act.
