Mumbai: A fire broke out at an offshore installation operated by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at the Mumbai High oilfields on Friday evening, leaving 10 personnel injured, according to a report by Free Press Journal.
The incident occurred at the SHP platform, part of ONGC’s Mumbai High Asset, at approximately 5:45 pm. In an official statement, the company confirmed that emergency response teams were immediately deployed and succeeded in bringing the situation under control within a short time. The blaze was extinguished promptly, preventing further escalation.

ONGC stated that all 10 affected personnel sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. The company added that their condition is stable. Following the incident, operations at the offshore facility have been restored to normal levels.
In its communication, ONGC emphasized that the fire was managed efficiently due to its preparedness and rapid response mechanisms. However, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and further investigation is expected to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
The Free Press Journal report noted that this incident comes shortly after another fire-related event in Mumbai earlier in the week. In that case, several auto rickshaws were destroyed in a blaze under a bridge in Ghatkopar, although no injuries were reported.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation at the offshore platform, and additional updates are likely as inquiries progress.
