Navi Mumbai Airport Opening: Traffic Curbs on Oct 8 for PM Modi’s Visit, Movement Restricted from 6 AM to 10 PM | Check Here

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the long-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on October 8 at 2:40 pm, marking a landmark infrastructure achievement for Maharashtra. While the ceremonial launch takes place this week, the airport is slated to begin operations in December.

Ahead of the high-profile event, Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have announced sweeping traffic restrictions to manage vehicular movement and bolster security. The curbs will be enforced between 6 am and 10 pm on October 8.

Heavy Vehicles Barred from Navi Mumbai
As per a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), all heavy goods vehicles are prohibited from entering, operating, or parking within city limits during the restriction period. The measure is aimed at reducing congestion and ensuring safe, uninterrupted passage for the Prime Minister’s convoy.

Heavy vehicles will be halted at Vashi and Airoli toll plazas, while those approaching from Mumbai via the Atal Setu will also be blocked from entry. Strict compliance will be ensured through multiple checkpoints and diversion plans deployed by the transport department.

A significant police presence will be stationed along critical routes and near NMIA, with priority zones identified for smooth convoy movement. Officers will be on continuous watch to prevent traffic bottlenecks. Special parking arrangements have been made for visitors arriving in private buses for the ceremony, with post-event assistance planned to facilitate a smooth dispersal.

Exemptions for Essential Services
Essential services will not be impacted. Ambulances, police and fire brigade vehicles, government vehicles, passenger buses, and vehicles transporting essential goods are exempt from the restrictions.

Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with the traffic plan and schedule their travel accordingly. The launch of NMIA is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity and alleviate the load on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
