In a shocking incident fueled by romantic rivalry, a 19-year-old woman was fatally shot at close range in Mumbai’s Shivaji Nagar area on Tuesday afternoon, according to Mumbai Police.
The victim, Shifa Shaikh, was killed in the Furqania Masjid vicinity of Shivaji Nagar when an argument escalated into gunfire. Police described the killing as stemming from a “love triangle” involving the teenager, her boyfriend, and another woman.
Shifa reportedly left her home after receiving a call to meet the suspect, a 25-year-old woman who has since been arrested as the prime accused. The confrontation occurred on a public road in broad daylight, where the accused allegedly fired a single shot at point-blank range, striking Shifa in the face. The bullet entered through her cheek and lodged in her skull, inflicting fatal injuries.
Bystanders rushed the wounded teenager to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, but she succumbed to her wounds en route or shortly after arrival, medical staff confirmed to officers at the scene. Authorities noted the extremely close proximity of the shooting based on the nature of the injury and initial evidence.
Drawing on CCTV footage, witness accounts, and rapid investigative leads, Mumbai Police apprehended the two key suspects within 12 hours: the 25-year-old woman believed to have pulled the trigger and a 23-year-old man connected to the case. The arrests followed a targeted operation informed by early inquiries.
The incident has rattled the local community in Govandi’s Shivaji Nagar, highlighting tensions arising from personal relationships. Police have registered a murder case and continue probing the exact motive, sequence of events, and any additional involvement. No further details on the suspects’ identities or the boyfriend’s precise role have been officially released beyond the love triangle context reported.
