Heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra led to flooding that disrupted long-distance train services between Mumbai and Gujarat on Thursday. Water levels at a railway bridge in the Gholvad-Umbergaon section exceeded the danger mark, prompting Western Railway to regulate, cancel, divert, and reschedule multiple trains.
Ten long-distance services were fully cancelled, including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Express, Bandra Terminus-Ramnagar Express, Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat, Virar-Valsad Passenger, and Bandra Terminus-Surat Intercity Express. The Surat-Mumbai Central Flying Rani was short-terminated at Udhna, while the Surat-Virar Express ended at Valsad.
Suburban services in the affected section also faced adjustments. The Churchgate-Dahanu Road local terminated at Vangaon, with services cancelled between Vangaon and Dahanu Road. The Dahanu Road-Borivali local originated from Vangaon instead.
On the Central Railway, waterlogging and rising river levels caused diversions for several long-distance trains, such as the Chennai-Ahmedabad Humsafar Express and others heading toward Indore and Kerala. However, suburban operations on Central Railway’s main, harbour, port, and trans-harbour lines continued with only minor delays.

The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Palghar district, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. Orange alerts were in place for Thane and Mumbai.
Separately, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking temporarily suspended bus services on one route after a tree fell in Marol, resuming operations shortly afterward. Some other bus routes experienced diversions due to ongoing construction but were later restored.
The disruptions highlight the vulnerability of transport infrastructure to intense monsoon weather in the region. Commuters and passengers were advised to check updated schedules and plan accordingly amid the weather conditions. Railway authorities continued monitoring the situation as rains persisted.
