Mumbai: Mumbai residents experienced a notably warm start to Saturday, April 18, 2026, as the city woke up under sunny skies with temperatures already reaching 30°C in the morning hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted partly cloudy skies over the city and its suburbs for the day, with maximum temperatures likely to climb up to 34°C and minimums around 24°C.
At 9:15 am, the recorded temperature stood at 30°C, with a feel-like temperature of 33°C, according to data from aqi.in. While no official heatwave warning has been issued by the authorities, forecasters anticipate very warm conditions persisting through the day. Rising humidity levels in the afternoon are expected to add to the discomfort for citizens. AccuWeather further predicts sunny skies mixed with high clouds, accompanied by breezy conditions in the afternoon, transitioning to clear to partly cloudy skies at night.
The city has been facing hot and humid weather in recent days. In conversation with the Free Press Journal, Dr Pradeep Awate, former State Surveillance Officer with Maharashtra Health Services, attributed the increasing heatwave trends in Mumbai to significant loss of open spaces, green cover, and water bodies, coupled with a sharp rise in built-up areas.
Air quality in Mumbai remained in the ‘moderate’ category overall, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 57 recorded at 9:15 am. However, pollution levels varied widely across different localities. The poorest air quality was noted in Dahisar’s Maratha Colony with a hazardous AQI of 446, while the cleanest was at Mulgaon Station 2 in Andheri, registering a good AQI of just 12.
Other areas with good air quality included Sathathharatha Nagar (20), Walkeshwar (25), Bandra West Station 1 (32), Worldi (32), Mount Mary (33), Colaba (35), Mahalaxmi (37), Santacruz West (40), and Vile Parle West (40).
