Mumbai Monsoon :likely To Witness Rain, IMD Issues Alert

As June nears its end, residents of Mumbai continue to endure hot and humid conditions, with little relief from rainfall in sight. Weather authorities indicate that temperatures are set to rise further in several parts of Maharashtra, while selected districts can expect intermittent rain over the coming days.

Hot and humid weather is forecast to dominate parts of the Konkan region, extending to districts including Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri. Afternoon showers remain possible in these areas, with light rainfall also anticipated in Sindhudurg.

In North Maharashtra, isolated pockets of Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nashik may experience heat wave conditions. However, light to moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers could arrive in the evening hours. Light showers are also possible in Ahilyanagar.

Western Maharashtra is likely to see light to moderate rain in Pune. Meanwhile, heat wave conditions are expected to intensify in Solapur. Light to moderate rainfall is predicted for parts of Sangli, Satara, and Kolhapur districts.

In the Marathwada region, heat alerts have been raised for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Beed. Light rain is expected in Parbhani, Hingoli, Latur, and Dharashiv. Isolated rains with thundershowers may occur in Nanded and Bhandara.

Vidarbha districts such as Akola, Amravati, and Wardha are likely to face heat wave conditions. Yellow-level heat alerts cover Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Yavatmal, and Wardha, though Washim has no such warning in place.

Separately, Odisha experienced severe heat on Wednesday, with Boudh recording a high of 42.7 degrees Celsius. In response to the ongoing extreme temperatures, authorities have extended summer vacations for schools and anganwadi centres in several districts. Schools in Bolangir, Sonepur, Ganjam, Angul, and Sundargarh will remain closed until June 20 and reopen on June 22. In Nuapada, classes will operate on a shortened morning schedule from June 18 to 20. Many schools in the state have been shut since late April due to the heat.

This patchwork of heat and rain across Maharashtra highlights the variable nature of the current weather system, urging residents to stay prepared for both rising temperatures and unexpected showers.
