Maharashtra Weather : Widespread Rain as IMD Issues Alerts

Mumbai: Weather patterns across Maharashtra continue to fluctuate sharply, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts for rain in more than 15 districts on Thursday even as certain coastal areas brace for rising temperatures.

Following dust storms and strong winds that disrupted normal life in several parts of the state on Wednesday, the IMD has forecast thundershowers in multiple regions. A yellow alert for stormy rains has been issued for several districts, while lighter rainfall is expected in others. The western disturbance is driving cooler winds towards India, resulting in cloudy conditions and scattered precipitation in Maharashtra and neighbouring states.

According to the IMD, rain is likely today in parts of Marathwada, Vidarbha, Central Maharashtra, and Konkan. On Friday, May 9, rainfall chances will persist mainly in Vidarbha, with dry conditions expected elsewhere, potentially pushing temperatures higher.

Districts Under Rain Alert

A yellow alert for thundershowers has been issued for Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Sangli, Latur, Dharashiv (Osmanabad), Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gondia, Bhandara, and Gadchiroli. Scattered rainfall is also possible in Pune, Satara, Ahmednagar, Beed, Parbhani, and Nanded.

On May 9, lighter rain with gusty winds is expected in Dharashiv, Latur, and Nanded, while a yellow alert remains in place for Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Wardha, and Yavatmal in Vidarbha.

Heat Wave Concerns in Konkan

In contrast, the IMD has forecast a heat wave in the Konkan region. Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts are likely to see rising temperatures, with a yellow alert issued for heat conditions. Similar alerts for increasing heat apply to parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha after the current rainy spell.

The forecast indicates that after May 10, an anti-cyclone is expected to form over northwest India, leading to a broader rise in temperatures across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and parts of Maharashtra, including Vidarbha and Marathwada.

Farmers have been urged to remain cautious as the predicted rains could affect standing crops. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation as the state experiences this mixed weather pattern of rainfall followed by heat.
