Mumbai Weather: Temperatures Likely To Cross 38°C As City Faces Third Heatwave

Mumbai is preparing for another spell of extreme heat as weather authorities warn that temperatures could climb above 38°C, marking the third heatwave affecting the city within a short span of time. According to a report by Free Press Journal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Mumbai and nearby districts for the next two days.
The warning applies to Mumbai as well as neighbouring areas such as Thane and Palghar, where meteorologists expect daytime temperatures to remain unusually high. Forecasts indicate that maximum temperatures could reach at least 38°C during this period, prompting officials to advise residents to take precautions against the intense heat.
The alert comes after a brief drop in temperatures earlier in the week. On Thursday, the Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of about 33°C, a noticeable fall from the severe heat recorded the previous day. Earlier, the city experienced one of its hottest days of the month when temperatures touched around 40°C.
Meteorologists note that the latest warning would make it the third heatwave to affect Mumbai in roughly eight days, an unusual trend for the early part of March. According to the Free Press Journal, this may be the first time the city has faced three heatwaves within the first half of the month.
The IMD has also advised residents to remain cautious during periods of intense heat. People have been urged to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated and wear light, loose clothing to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.
While Mumbai is expected to remain dry, weather officials have predicted possible thunderstorms and rainfall in parts of interior Maharashtra over the weekend due to changing weather conditions. However, no rainfall warning has been issued for the Konkan region, including Mumbai.
The repeated heatwave alerts in early March have raised concerns about the intensity of the upcoming summer season, with experts warning that above-normal temperatures could persist across the region in the coming weeks.
