Mumbai Weather Today : Mumbai Wakes Up To Clear Skies As Air Quality Improves, But Some Areas Still Struggle

Clearer skies and a dip in pollution offer relief to Mumbaikars, but air quality challenges remain in several neighbourhoods.

Mumbai : On the morning of February 18, 2026, Mumbai residents were greeted by bright, clear skies and noticeably cleaner air, a welcome shift from the polluted conditions that have affected the city in recent weeks. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) improved to 85, placing most of the city in the ‘moderate’ range, a significant change from the persistent high pollution of the past months.

Data from air quality monitors showed several neighbourhoods recording healthier air. For example, Gamdevi Station 1 registered an AQI of 43, classified as ‘good’, while Mahavir Nagar (52), Dhakoji Sethpada (53), Mazgaon (58) and Breach Candy (60) also stayed within moderate levels. These readings suggest that many parts of Mumbai experienced clearer, more breathable air early on Wednesday.

Despite the overall improvement, a few pockets continued to report poorer air quality. Sarvodaya Nagar remained in the ‘unhealthy’ category with an AQI of 257, followed by Subhash Nagar (247) and Sion Station 2 (237), indicating that pollutants are still a concern in some areas. Meanwhile, Govandi West (140) and Yagna Nagar (117) recorded air quality in the ‘poor’ bracket.

According to classifications used by environmental agencies, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 is ‘moderate’, 101 to 200 is ‘poor’, 201 to 300 is ‘unhealthy’ and anything above 300 is labelled ‘severe’ or ‘hazardous’. While today’s readings brought encouraging signs for cleaner air, officials and health experts say continued monitoring is necessary as pollution levels can vary widely across the metropolitan region.
