Mira Road, Mumbai: A sudden fall of an operational crane from the 11th floor at the JP North Society construction site in Mumbai’s Mira Road on 16th July claimed a human life and left others injured. The crane was operational when it lost its balance and crashed. The police have yet to confirm the exact cause of the collapse, and a First Information Report (FIR) will be registered to address the incident.
Senior Inspector of Kashi Gaon police station, Rahul Patil, said, “The crane was operational, and it appears the operator lost balance, due to which the crane fell off the 11th floor. The operator appears to be a young man who also sustained injuries in the matter.”

The police are also scrutinizing the level of training achieved by the operator and investigating the necessary safety precautions taken at the time of the incident in order to deduce the cause and proceed further. The fall took place around 8:30 pm adjacent to the JK Iris residential complex, where a multi-level parking tower was under construction. It killed a 21-year-old man identified as Mohammad Khokhar, and several cars parked in the society were also crushed under the weight of the crane, spreading instant panic among the residents. Immediate relief was dispatched by the police, fire department, and rescue teams, who quickly launched a rescue operation.
The daunting cases of construction-related deaths in metropolitan areas, especially in Mumbai, where it is very rare to see a non-construction scene in any lane, are increasing. In Mumbai, a 31-year-old man met a tragic fate when an iron rod suddenly fell on him at a construction site in Vakola in June this year. Furthermore, two laborers died in May this year at another construction site, prompting the police to book the supervisors and regulate their powers. Such cases need immediate resolution at this hour.
