Over 250 Mumbai Local Trains Cancelled This Weekend Due to Western Railway Block

Mumbai: Commuters on Western Railway face significant disruptions this weekend as infrastructure work forces the cancellation of more than 250 suburban services. The ongoing construction of the sixth line between Kandivali and Borivali, a project delayed for years and now progressing in phases, necessitates extended night blocks, leading to reduced train operations on Saturdays and Sundays.
According to information provided by Western Railway, the block commenced on December 20, 2025, and will continue until January 18, 2026. This has already resulted in hundreds of service cancellations, contributing to severe overcrowding on remaining trains in recent days.
On Friday night (January 10), a block will be in place from 11:15 pm to 3:15 am on the Up fast line, and from 1 am to 4:30 am at Kandivali station for point connections. A larger block is scheduled for Sunday night, affecting the Down fast line between Kandivali and Malad, running from 1 am to 6:30 am on both Up and Down fast lines, and until 4 am on the Up slow line.

Specifically, 101 local services will be cancelled on January 10 — 50 on the Up direction and 51 on the Down. On January 11, the figure rises to 153 cancellations — 79 Up and 74 Down — pushing the weekend total beyond 250.
Several long-distance trains are also impacted. On January 10, Train No. 19426 Nandurbar-Borivali Express and Train No. 19418 Ahmedabad-Borivali Express will be partially cancelled at Vasai Road. Timetable changes affect Train No. 12902 Ahmedabad-Dadar Express and Train No. 19218 Veraval-Bandra Terminus Express on the same day.
For January 11, Train No. 19417 Borivali-Ahmedabad Express and Train No. 19425 Borivali-Nandurbar Express will originate from Vasai Road. Adjustments are also planned for Train No. 22953 Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Express and Train No. 22921 Bandra Terminus-Gorakhpur Express.
Passengers are advised to check updated schedules, as the reduced services are likely to cause considerable inconvenience during peak weekend travel.
