Mumbai: Commuters in India’s financial capital should prepare for selective service interruptions on Sunday, March 22, 2026, as Central Railway and Western Railway carry out routine maintenance through their respective mega block and jumbo block schedules.
Central Railway refers to its weekend engineering possessions as “Mega Blocks,” while Western Railway uses the term “Jumbo Blocks.” These blocks, typically held on Sundays, allow for essential track, signal, and infrastructure upkeep to ensure long-term safety and reliability.

On the Central Line (Main Line), no full daytime mega block has been announced for the primary corridor. However, a separate major traffic and power block is in effect at Prabhadevi station from 01:30 hrs to 06:00 hrs on the night of March 21-22 (Saturday-Sunday). During this window, no trains operate between Churchgate and Prabhadevi. Services skip halts at Matunga Road and Mahim stations, with some trains short-terminated or reversed at Dadar or Bandra. Certain suburban trains face cancellation or short-termination, and select mail/express services may experience regulation.
For the Trans-Harbour Line, Central Railway has scheduled a Sunday mega block between Nerul/Vashi and Thane from 11:10 AM to 4:10 PM in both directions. No train services run between Thane and Vashi/Nerul during this period. Down trains from Thane toward Vashi/Nerul/Panvel cease from 10:35 AM to 4:07 PM, while up trains from Panvel/Nerul/Vashi toward Thane halt from 10:25 AM to 4:09 PM.
No mega blocks are reported for the Harbour Line or Uran Line on this date.
On the Western Line, Western Railway has planned a jumbo block between Vasai Road and Virar on both up and down local lines from 00:15 hrs to 04:15 hrs (early morning). During this time, local trains continue operations on the through lines between Virar/Vasai Road and Borivali, allowing partial connectivity in the affected stretch.
Railway authorities stress that these blocks are vital for infrastructure maintenance and passenger safety. Commuters are urged to exercise patience amid the temporary inconveniences and check real-time updates via official railway sources, apps, or announcements for any last-minute changes or special services.
Passengers relying on Trans-Harbour routes may consider alternative paths where available, while early-morning Western Line users could face adjustments in the Vasai-Virar section.
