Major Fire Destroys 30 Hutments In Kurla’s Kismat Nagar; No Casualties Reported

Mumbai, November 28: A large blaze erupted late Thursday night in the Kismat Nagar area of Kurla, affecting slum settlements along CST Road. The fire, which started around 11 pm, consumed approximately 30 hutments, some reaching up to three storeys and serving both residential and commercial purposes. Occupants quickly evacuated the area as the flames spread. No injuries were reported.
Fire Reaches Level 3, Emergency Response Activated
The incident originated at Khalil Shaikh Chawl in Kismat Nagar. Residents initially attempted to control the fire, but as it intensified, the Mumbai Fire Brigade was summoned. By 11:44 pm, the situation escalated to a Level 3 emergency. Responders included 13 fire engines, eight jumbo tankers, a quick response unit, an ambulance, police personnel, and local authorities. The fire was brought under control by 2:15 am.

Damage Contained to Multiple Units; No Injuries
According to the BMC disaster management report, the fire was limited to electrical wiring, machinery, scrap materials, wooden and metal furniture, documents, and other contents inside 25 to 30 units within multi-storey residential and commercial buildings.
No casualties were reported in the incident. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, and inquiries are ongoing.
