In a shocking incident in Mira Road near Mumbai, a 31-year-old man allegedly stabbed two security guards at an under-construction building after questioning them about their religion and ability to recite the Kalma, an Islamic declaration of faith.
The attack took place around 4 am on Sunday in Mira Road East. The accused, Jaib Zubair Ansari, approached the guards on duty and first inquired about their names and religion. He then asked if they could recite the Kalma. When the guards said they could not, Ansari reportedly pulled out a knife and attacked them.
One guard, Rajkumar Mishra, suffered serious injuries, including damage to his intestines. The second guard, Subroto Sen, sustained minor injuries to his back. After the assault, Sen managed to hide inside a security cabin and alerted the police. Both victims were rushed to Wockhardt Hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable as they continue to receive medical treatment.
Police responded swiftly to the scene. Using CCTV footage, officers identified Ansari and arrested him within 90 minutes at his rented residence in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road East. A case was initially registered at the Naya Nagar Police Station based on a complaint by Subroto Sen.

The investigation has since been transferred to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), which is jointly probing the matter with local police. Authorities are examining Ansari’s online activity, including reports that he repeatedly watched ISIS-related propaganda videos. Police have appealed to the public not to spread rumours or unverified information about the case, warning of legal action against those circulating misinformation.
Ansari, who reportedly studied in the US until 2019 and later worked as a teacher at a coaching centre, lived alone in a rented flat in the area. The quick arrest and transfer of the case to the ATS highlight the seriousness with which authorities are treating the incident amid concerns over possible ideological motivations.
Both guards are currently under medical care, and the probe into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing continues.
