Weather Update:  IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Mumbai And Konkan As Temperatures Soar In Vidarbha

Mumbai: Maharashtra is bracing for a fresh spell of severe heat starting April 11 as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for six coastal districts in the Konkan region, including Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. While daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius in these areas, high humidity will make the conditions feel much hotter, leading to discomfort and potential health concerns for residents, especially in Mumbai.

In Vidarbha, the heat is set to be far more intense, with temperatures in districts such as Akola, Nagpur and Wardha likely to cross 40 degrees Celsius and possibly reach 45 degrees in some places. Similar dry and hot conditions are forecast for Marathwada districts like Latur, Nanded and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where maximum temperatures may stay 2-3 degrees above normal.

Cities in western and northern Maharashtra, including Pune, Nashik and Ahmednagar, will also experience rising heat, with Pune likely to touch around 38 degrees Celsius and Nashik and Aurangabad ranging between 36 and 39 degrees. Light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is possible at isolated places in Satara district, offering limited relief, but most parts of the state are expected to remain dry and clear at least until April 13.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised caution during peak afternoon hours due to the combination of heat and humidity, particularly along the coast.
