Mumbai: Four Domino’s Pizza outlets in Maharashtra, including three in Mumbai, have had their food business licences suspended after state food safety officials found multiple violations involving hygiene, food storage, pest control and safety procedures during a special inspection drive.
The affected Mumbai outlets are located in Vile Parle West, Borivali West and R-City Mall in Ghatkopar West. The fourth outlet is in Malkapur, Karad, in Satara district. All four are operated by Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd. The action was taken under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
At the Vile Parle outlet, inspectors reported deficiencies involving the display of the FSSAI licence, potable water testing, food storage, pest control and hygiene facilities. Officials also directed the outlet to improve temperature monitoring of frozen food, separate food and non food items, strengthen rodent prevention and provide adequate hand washing facilities.
The Borivali West outlet was also found non compliant, with deficiencies linked to food storage, temperature monitoring, food testing, cleanliness and pest control. The FDA called for better separation of raw and cooked food, as well as vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, and regular sanitisation of equipment and utensils.
The Ghatkopar outlet faced findings related to cleanliness, sanitation schedules and pest-control measures. Inspectors also flagged failures to properly follow FIFO (First In, First Out) and FEFO (First Expired, First Out) practices, along with inadequate records for food and water testing, equipment calibration and preventive maintenance.
The Malkapur outlet in Satara was reported to have around 40% non compliance, with shortcomings involving basic facilities, equipment, cleanliness and pest control.
The action against Domino’s forms part of a wider Maharashtra FDA crackdown on major restaurant chains. The special drive covered 104 establishments, including brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Subway, Burger King, Starbucks and Monginis. The FDA said two establishments were ordered to stop operations, 95 received improvement notices and five food business licences were suspended.
Separately, the FDA said it had inspected 120 establishments in recent days, issued 54 improvement notices and suspended 11 food business licences as part of the broader enforcement campaign. The crackdown has intensified since Tukaram Mundhe took charge as Maharashtra FDA commissioner in May.
The suspensions concern the four inspected outlets and do not amount to a statewide ban on Domino’s. The immediate focus is on correcting the violations identified by food safety authorities.
