Maharashtra Budget Session 2026: CM Fadnavis Pays Tribute To The Legacy Of Ajit Pawar

Mumbai : On an emotional note, the Budget Session 2026 of the Maharashtra Legislature began on Monday delivering a condolence motion for former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, recalling him as a mentor, close friend, and an unmatched administrator.

Emotionally speaking in the house, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he would have never imagined to move a condolence motion for Ajit Pawar. He said, ” His relationship with Ajit Dada went far beyond political affiliation. He was not just a colleague, but a friend in public life.”

Remembering their connection spanning more than a decade, Fadnavis said Ajit Pawar not just inspired him, but generations of leaders through his work ethic and decisiveness. Further he said, by presenting this year’s 12th consecutive state budget and then poised to create history by presenting a 13th budget next year, a record has remained unfulfilled due to his absence.

CM Fadnavis praised Ajit Pawar’s ability to take tough decisions and sometimes unpopular decisions which never came to limelight while handling the crucial finance portfolio. Saying him as a visionary and stable leader, Fadnavis said that nobody could fill the void left by his sad demise in Maharashtra politics. Emphasizing his personal bond he said that as Ajit pawar was 11 years senior to him in every sense he was truly a “Dada” to him.

Talking about his professionalism, Fadnavis said he was a disciplined man, early-morning routines, and meticulous planning of daily activities which sets him apart from the most leaders in the domain.

Governor Delivers Inaugural Address

Commencing the session with joint sitting of both houses, addressed by Acharya Devvrat, governor started to address in Marathi before switching to Hindi. Then the house echoed with Vande Mataram, the National Anthem, and the State Anthem.

Greeting members in the house, Governor Devvrat said that the house would be guided by the principles of Rajmata Jijau, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Bhagwan Birsa Munda and other such great social reformers. He outlined the achievements of the BJP-led Mahayuti government over the past years and its roadmap for the future.

Due to the opposition’s insufficient numbers, neither the 78-member Legislative Council nor the Legislative Assembly have a Leader of the Opposition, and the Budget Session has started in an unprecedented political situation. This development has been referred to as a threat to democratic principles by the Maha Vikas Aghadi, which contends that the lack of a Leader of the Opposition erodes institutional checks and balances, particularly when the ruling administration has a sizable majority.
