Mumbai will deploy more than 24,000 police personnel on Friday to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of Ganesh immersion processions. The arrangements cover the final immersion of Lord Ganesh idols on Anant Chaturdashi, marking the end of the festival that began on September 14.
According to an official statement, the deployment includes six Joint Commissioners of Police, nine Additional Commissioners of Police, 38 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 66 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 3,213 police officers, 18,940 other security personnel, and 1,050 trainees. Specialised units such as the Rapid Action Force, State Reserve Police Force, Force One, Quick Response Teams, Law and Order platoons, Riot Control Squads, Delta and Combat units, Anti-Drone squads, and Home Guards will be stationed at key and sensitive locations across the city.
Traffic management plans have also been prepared under the supervision of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) to handle the large crowds expected during the processions.
Authorities have appealed to the public to exercise restraint in crowded areas and cooperate with security arrangements. Devotees are urged to report any unclaimed or suspicious objects immediately and to contact emergency helplines 100 or 112 if needed.
The comprehensive security measures have been planned under the guidance of the Commissioner of Police and the supervision of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order). The focus remains on facilitating safe celebrations for the large number of devotees participating in the immersion processions.
