Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Mumbai Police Deploy 17,000 Personnel, Special Units on Duty for Citywide Security

Mumbai: As Ganesh Chaturthi festivities kick off today, August 27, and continue until September 6, 2025, the Mumbai Police have announced an extensive security plan to ensure public safety and the smooth conduct of the city’s biggest festival.

Officials confirmed that a force of nearly 17,000 personnel is on active duty during the 10-day celebration. The deployment includes 36 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), 51 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), 2,637 police officers and 14,430 constables. Security teams will work round-the-clock to handle massive crowds at pandals, processions, and key immersion points across the city and suburbs.

Special Units Form Security Backbone

To strengthen arrangements further, specialized forces such as the Railway Protection Force (RPF), State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) platoons, Quick Response Team (QRT), Riot Control Unit, Delta Force, Combat Units, and Home Guards have been mobilized. Their responsibilities range from maintaining crowd discipline and traffic order to preventing communal tensions and tackling emergencies swiftly.

Emergency Helplines for Citizens

For public assistance, the Mumbai Police have urged citizens to use emergency contact numbers 100, 112, and 103. Officials say the helplines will remain operational 24/7 throughout the festival.

Crowd Control at Iconic Mandals

The annual festival is expected to draw millions of devotees to popular mandals like Lalbaugcha Raja, Andhericha Raja, and Khetwadi Ganraj, which traditionally see the largest footfalls. With processions and vigils planned across neighborhoods, authorities have made traffic management and anti-terror vigilance key priorities.

Mumbai Police officials emphasized that the comprehensive deployment underscores their proactive approach to safeguarding devotees and ensuring that Ganeshotsav celebrations unfold peacefully across the metropolis.
