Mumbai Faces Midnight Train Disruptions as Central Railway Plans Key Infrastructure Work

Central Railway has scheduled a significant traffic and power block between Kalyan and Badlapur stations, set to occur from midnight on April 5 into the early hours of April 6. According to a statement from the Mumbai division of Central Railway, reported by Jagran English, this operation will facilitate the removal of four girders from an existing Rail Over Bridge (ROB) as part of ongoing infrastructure enhancements. The block, affecting the UP and Down South-East lines, will run from 1:30 AM to 4:30 AM on April 6, impacting the stretch between Ambarnath and Badlapur in Thane district.
The girder removal, aimed at supporting the construction of a new pipeline bridge, will involve the use of two road cranes at kilometer marker 62/880. This work is expected to disrupt several train services, with mail, express, and suburban trains facing diversions, delays, or suspensions. Central Railway has outlined that some services will be rerouted via the Karjat-Panvel-Diva line, while passengers typically boarding at Kalyan will be accommodated with stops at Thane station during the block period.
Specific adjustments include Train No. 22178 Secunderabad-Rajkot Express, which will be held at Vangani station from 4:10 AM to 4:30 AM, and Train No. 11022 Tirunelveli-Dadar Express, paused at Neral station from 4:17 AM to 4:27 AM, as per a Mid Day report. Mail and express trains running behind schedule may also be diverted based on operational demands. Suburban services between Ambarnath and Karjat will be halted entirely during the block.
To mitigate the impact, Central Railway has adjusted some suburban schedules. The PA3 local from Parel to Ambarnath, departing at 11:13 PM, will extend its journey to Badlapur, while the BL61 local from CSMT to Badlapur, leaving at 11:51 PM, will terminate early at Ambarnath. Jagran English noted that passengers are urged to check updated timetables and plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience during this critical maintenance window.
