BMC Elections 2026: BEST Bus Services Cut By 40% Daily Till January 15
Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses will not operate at full capacity till Thursday, January 15. The transport body has announced a 40 percent reduction in daily services. This decision has been taken because 1,065 buses will be deployed for election-related work ahead of the municipal corporation elections.
BEST CURRENTLY HAS TOTAL 2,743 BUSES
This reduction is expected to increase waiting time at bus stops and travel duration. These buses, both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned, will be used to transport polling staff, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other electoral material to polling booths across Mumbai. BEST currently has a total of 2,743 buses, of which 2,494 are on wet lease.

It is noteworthy that this is happening at a time when private and commercial vehicles are being used on a large scale for election purposes. According to reports, over 3,400 auto-rickshaws, taxis, buses, cars and tempos have already been deployed for election duty across Mumbai.
