On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolished 17 unapproved commercial buildings in the Andheri neighborhood of Mumbai as part of its ongoing campaign against illegal encroachments.
On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the BMC K West Division Office, led by Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr. (Mrs.) Ashwini Joshi, demolished the encroachments.
Some businesses in Andheri (West)’s Aram Nagar, J. P. Marg, and Versova neighborhood utilized the required open space as a service area and covered it without permission. According to a BMC civic official, “encroachments on the footpaths by the concerned establishments were removed.”
Eight businesses, including Arbab, Barista, Soraizai, Hakim Salon, Persia Darbar, Ink N Bretto Menu, Darjeeling Leo’s Momo, and China Suburb, had their unlawful sewage connections cut off by BMC.
In order to clear the densely populated regions, BMC has carried out multiple anti-encroachment campaigns over the past two months. These campaigns have eliminated undocumented buildings, shop extensions, hutments, and encroachments on public land, roads, and walkways. The goal is to increase public infrastructure, reduce traffic, and enhance pedestrian mobility, according to BMC.
BMC spearheaded the largest anti-encroachment campaign in Bandra East’s Garib Nagar in May, and on Monday, June 22, 2026, 17 unapproved buildings in Andheri West were demolished. The Bombay High Court has also chastised BMC on multiple times for neglecting to deal with the unapproved buildings on roads and walkways.
A number of departments, including Conservation, Public Health, Licensing, Fire, Building and Factories, and MHADA, worked together to seize items like an LPG hot plate, electric induction, storage rack, electric oil fryer, microwave oven, wooden table, commercial LPG cylinder, and other furniture.
