Mumbai: A day after a video of a woman confronting BJP minister Girish Mahajan over traffic disruption during the ‘Jan Aakrosh Morcha’ women’s march went viral, the senior leader defended the protest while acknowledging public inconvenience but also alleged that the woman used inappropriate language against police and threw a bottle at the demonstration.

Speaking to the media in a video shared PTI, Mahajan said the march was organised after Mumbai women turned out in large numbers to protest against the Congress over the Women’s Reservation Bill not being passed in the Lok Sabha. The rally was moving towards Worli, and the minister said road blockages are inevitable when large-scale protests move between locations.
“When such a march takes place on the road and has to move from one place to another in this case towards Worli the road is bound to be blocked, and some inconvenience is inevitable in any protest. Still, there is a proper way to express anger, and I feel the language used was inappropriate,” Mahajan said.

The minister said he did not dismiss the woman’s frustration, accepting that she may have been running late. However, he maintained that the manner in which she expressed her anger crossed a line. He added that she could have raised her grievance with the police, noting that prior permission had been obtained for the protest. Mahajan also said he personally assured her the road would be cleared within 10 minutes and apologised to her on the spot.
The viral video shows the woman questioning why the march was allowed on a congested road when an open ground was available nearby. “Say what you want to say in an empty ground, get out of here, don’t stop the traffic. There are hundreds of people waiting, and there is an empty ground right there,” she is heard telling the minister.
Get out of here!
