Veteran actor-comedian Satish Shah, celebrated for iconic turns in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, passed away in Mumbai at 74 due to kidney failure, prompting an outpouring of grief across the industry. Amitabh Bachchan, his co-star in films like Shakti and Bhoothnath, penned a reflective tribute, calling Shah’s passing a grievous loss and noting that “the show must go on” even in moments of deep sorrow. Salman Khan, recalling a bond dating back to his teenage years, remembered Shah’s larger-than-life spirit with the line, “life lived kingsize.”
Shah’s four-decade career straddled television and cinema with effortless comic timing and warmth. Beyond his legendary TV roles, he featured in mainstream hits including Kal Ho Naa Ho, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and Main Hoon Na, endearing himself to generations of viewers. He was rushed to P.D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre after kidney-related complications but could not be revived, according to hospital communication.

His funeral in Mumbai drew colleagues and friends from across film and television among them Jackie Shroff, Naseeruddin Shah, David Dhawan, Johny Lever, and the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai cast who remembered his generosity, wit, and kindness. Actor Rupali Ganguly, who played his on-screen daughter-in-law, was seen in tears as the fraternity paid final respects to a performer whose presence defined comfort comedy for decades.
