Who is Harjit Singh, Alias Laddi, The Khalistani Who Fired at Kapil Sharma Cafe in Canada? | VIDEO

Harjit Singh, known as Laddi, claimed responsibility for the attack in a Facebook post, alleging it was retaliation for comments made about Nihang Sikhs’ attire on The Kapil Sharma Show. Laddi, a key operative of BKI a terrorist organization banned in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act since 2018 stated he attempted to contact Sharma’s manager but received no response. He also warned of further consequences if Sharma does not issue a public apology.

Hailing from Garpadhana village in Punjab’s Nawanshahr, Laddi is a wanted terrorist in India, with a Rs 10 lakh bounty placed on him by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2024. Believed to be operating from Germany, he is accused of orchestrating violent attacks in Punjab, including the April 2024 assassination of Vishva Hindu Parishad leader Vikas Prabhakar in Rupnagar. Indian authorities allege Laddi works under the direction of Pakistan-based BKI chief Wadhawa Singh Babbar, facilitating arms, funding, and logistics for terror operations in India.

What happened at Kap’s Café

Around 2 a.m. local time, gunfire erupted at Kap’s Café, located in the 8400-block of 120th Street in Surrey. According to the Surrey Police Service, the shots damaged the property while staff were still inside. Fortunately, no one was injured. Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton told Vancouver City News that the investigation is ongoing, but it’s too early to confirm motives or suspects. “Anytime bullets are flying indiscriminately, the chances of someone getting hurt are very high,” Houghton said, noting the community’s luck that no injuries occurred.

A chilling eight-second video circulating on social media, reportedly filmed from the shooter’s perspective inside a vehicle, shows 10 gunshots fired at the café. While police have not yet verified the footage, the incident marks the fifth attack on South Asian businesses in Surrey since June, according to the Vancouver Sun. Local resident Satish Kumar expressed frustration to the outlet, saying, “It’s very tough to live in Surrey right now. There’s too much crime going on. Every day there’s shootings.”

Kap’s Café responded with a statement on social media: “We opened Kap’s Café to bring warmth and joy to our community. To have violence disrupt that vision is heartbreaking, but we remain resilient and will not give up.”

A Growing Concern in Canada

The shooting has raised alarms about escalating extremist violence in Canada. Canadian journalist Daniel Bordman, speaking to ANI, described the attack as a “disturbing escalation.” He noted, “We’ve seen an uptick in extremist violence, especially since October 7, including firebombings of synagogues and attacks on Jewish schools. The Khalistanis have been active for years, and now BKI, a listed terrorist group in both Canada and India, is taking responsibility for this attack.” Bordman referenced BKI’s notorious history, including the 1985 Air India Flight 182 bombing.
