Two Killed, Around 80 Injured in Train Collision Near London | Video

Bedford: A major rail accident near London claimed two lives and left around 80 people injured after two passenger trains collided close to Bedford in central England. The incident triggered a large-scale emergency response, with ambulances, air rescue teams and railway authorities rushing to the scene. Reports indicate that one of the deceased was a train driver, while dozens of passengers sustained injuries of varying severity. 

Passengers Describe Scenes of Fear and Confusion

Survivors recounted harrowing moments following the collision, describing loud noises, panic and confusion inside the train compartments. Several passengers said people were crying and screaming as they tried to understand what had happened and assist those who were injured.

According to accounts shared by passengers, the impact was so severe that some initially believed an explosion had occurred. Witnesses reported seeing injured travellers with serious wounds, while others remained in shock after the crash. 

Emergency Services Launch Massive Rescue Operation

Emergency teams were dispatched shortly after the collision was reported. More than 20 ambulances, multiple air ambulances and specialist rescue units were deployed to manage the situation and provide urgent medical assistance.

Authorities confirmed that several people suffered serious and very serious injuries, while many others received treatment for minor wounds either at the scene or in nearby hospitals. 

Investigation Underway Into Cause of Crash

The collision involved two East Midlands Railway services travelling towards London St Pancras. Railway investigators and law enforcement agencies have begun examining the circumstances that led to the crash.

Officials said efforts are focused on determining how the trains came into contact and whether any operational or technical issues contributed to the accident. Rail services in the affected area were disrupted as investigators secured the site and recovery operations continued.

Leaders Express Condolences

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Railway unions and transport authorities also conveyed their support to victims, passengers and rail staff affected by the tragedy. 

The train collision is being regarded as one of the most serious rail accidents in the United Kingdom in recent years, with investigations expected to continue in the coming days.
