For India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) and Rolls-Royce have declared their strategic intention to work together on the design, development, production, and delivery of a sovereign, domestic combat engine.
In addition, RIL and Rolls-Royce announced that they will investigate the establishment of a special Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex, which will serve as India’s premier hub for power and propulsion technology.
According to a joint statement from the firms, “the partnership will offer a compelling proposition for joint development of the AMCA engine in India, bringing together world-leading technology and industrial execution capabilities.”
“India’s strategic autonomy requires sovereign capability in critical technologies,” stated Anant Ambani, Executive Director of RIL. Our goal with Rolls-Royce is to create an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem in India by combining their world-class advanced propulsion knowledge with Reliance’s technology, production, scale, and execution skills.
He continued, “Together, we aim to build an enduring national capability that can make India self-reliant and, over time, globally competitive in advanced propulsion technologies.”
“I welcome the opportunity to join forces with RIL, bringing together our century-long heritage in advanced engineering and proven engine expertise with their homegrown leadership in Indian industry,” stated Tufan Erginbilgiç, CEO of Rolls-Royce.
“Together, with our current partnerships and capabilities in India, this marks a major milestone toward building a robust, self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in the country,” he continued.
According to the businesses’ announcement, the Aero Gas Turbine Complex will provide independent, end-to-end Indian capabilities in design, development, manufacture, testing, production, and through-life support by fusing Rolls-Royce’s worldwide engine expertise with RIL’s industrial strengths.
According to the statement, this will also make it possible to investigate broader partnerships in the fields of defense, civil aerospace, and innovative power and propulsion technologies.
