Speaking at the annual gathering, Trump expressed “tremendous respect” for both Greenland and Denmark. However, he criticised Denmark’s stance, stating that the US had previously “saved Greenland and gave it back to Denmark,” only for Denmark to now be “ungrateful.” He questioned the historical decision, saying, “How stupid were we to give Greenland to Denmark, it’s a part of North America.” The President also described Greenland as “a piece of ice,” adding that it is “hard to call Greenland a ‘land’.”
In the same address, Trump marked the completion of his first year in office, declaring that Americans are “very happy” with his leadership. He contrasted his administration with the previous one under President Joe Biden, which he said had left the country “plagued with stagflation.” Under his leadership, Trump said, the situation is “exactly opposite.”
Reiterating remarks made a day earlier, the President described the United States as the “hottest country in the world.” He further claimed that no previous president has had a better first year, stating, “I don’t think there’s been a term like it. I don’t think any President has had a better first year… I inherited a mess, and now we have the hottest country in the world.”
