Texas Teen Held Without Bail in Triple Murder of Indian-Origin Family Members

A 19-year-old Indian-origin resident of Texas has been denied bail after appearing in court on capital murder charges stemming from the fatal shooting of his parents and grandmother.

Authorities identified the suspect as Gaurav Chopra, who stands accused of killing three family members in a domestic shooting. The victims were his father, Sweera Ram, 56, his mother, Kamlesh Rani, 46, and his grandmother, Minder Kaur, 73. Chopra also allegedly fired at his brother, who escaped injury and alerted emergency services.

Responding officers arrived at the residence to find two victims deceased at the scene. The third victim was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Chopra fled the location, prompting a high-speed vehicle pursuit by law enforcement. During the chase, his car struck another vehicle, resulting in the hospitalization of two individuals.

Following his apprehension, investigators recovered a handgun from Chopra’s vehicle, which they believe was used in the shootings. He faces charges of capital murder involving multiple victims, attempted murder, and evading arrest. A judge declined to set bond on the primary charges during his court appearance.
